By And By I Come

McSars was leaning against the railing, looking out over the lava. He felt the warmth of it on his bare arms and closed his eyes. He was content. The loose ends were all tied up and he had his friends and loved ones.

He tried for a moment to feel for the people he’d killed and maimed and was again content when he felt nothing. His actions were completely justified in his mind, though he knew some people wouldn’t be able to do that. But a good soldier was strong of mind. It was all in the line of duty.

A slight smile touched his face and a warm breeze wafted over him.

Lycannon slowly emerged from their home, hooves clicking quietly against the stone floor, and she stopped when she reached him. Sliding a hand up his back, she rest her hand on his shoulder and gazed at him fondly. “What are you thinking, hm?” She asked softly, leaning on the man.

He looked up and smiled to her. “Just how good I’m feeling right now. For some reason, even though the war up north is still going – I feel good. For the first time in ages, I’m content.”

She smiled back and dipped her head to kiss the man, holding the capture for a few moments before pulling away. “Is that what you wanted to tell me in the arena?” She flicked her tail and shifted her hips, turning to rest on the railing.

He nodded, reaching up and tracing a fingertip down her cheek and along the curve of her chin. “I can’t wait until the whole thing is over. And… It made me realize something. Things happen. We can’t afford to faff around. Marriage, Lycannon. You and me.”

Lycannon blinked and raised her brows, licking her lips and then swallowing. “I know. The war will end sooner or later, hopefully sooner rather than later..er..” She paused, meeting his gaze. “Well..what about it?”

“Let’s decide a time. Not too far into the future. A milestone to look ahead to.” He takes her hand, looking at her earnestly. “I want to be your husband, Lycannon. A damn lot.”

She opened her mouth to speak, but it took a few moments for her mind to come up with something that didn’t sound like jibberish and stuttering. He had just presented it to her, right there, and it left her stunned. “I..alright..” She stopped and shook her head, squeezing his hand and looking back at him, feeling the steely blue of his eyes. “I mean..I don’t know what to say. I can look back and remember never even considering you in such a way but..now..” Pausing again, she looked down and smiled, her cheeks turning in color. “I love you, Jacob, and I’d do anything if it meant being with you for the rest of my days.”

He pulled Lycannon into an embrace and held her close. “I love you too, Lycannon.” He didn’t bother mentioning that she’d probably outlive him – he barely considered it himself. All that mattered was that she was to be his wife, and that they were together. “Lycannon…” He murmured – just to say her name, to acknowledge the beautiful draenei in his arms even more.

Lycannon sunk to his level, drawing a breath and slowly moving her arms up underneath his. She pressed her hands to his shoulder blades as tight as her cheek was to his collar bone and closed her eyes, taking in the moment. It had seemed, after all these years, she had finally found peace again. The way he said her name sent a shiver down her spine, and she tilted her head, lips brushing against his ear as she spoke. “Did you have any time in mind?”

“Sooner the better. I’ll leave the choice to you, for when you’re ready. It’ll be however you want it to be. Wherever you want. However you want.” Jacob replied, taking a long, deep breath and slowly letting it out. The tension was gone from his muscles, only a feeling of well-being remained.

She couldn’t help but chuckle at this. “Were you afraid of letting the others know?” Her voice had seemed to be brighter ever since her rescue, and it was softer in tone. “I know Saibley would want to be there, and probably most of the Keepers..” Trailing off, she narrowed her eyes in thought, studying one of his scars.

He chuckled a bit. “I don’t give a damn who knows what at this point. I don’t mind if there’s Keepers, so long as they don’t make the whole thing a bore. Some of ’em tend to do that. To be honest, that fellow Kaludra likes, well… Doesn’t seem to be much below the surface.” He shrugs his shoulders and then winks. “Either way, let ’em all come if you like.”

“Mmm, don’t let her know that. I’m doing well to keep things neutral between him and I.” Chuckling again, she gave a playful nip to his jawline. “Speaking of, does she know about this?”

“Know about what?” Kaludra chirped, trotting up and hugging her mother from behind, then dipping her head respectfully to McSars.

Lycannon blinked and whirled around, biting her lip as she leaned against the man.

Jacob grinned, looking at Kaludra fondly. “Alright. I’ll tell you – but you have to promise to try to not react in any way to what I’m going to tell you for at least five seconds. How about it?”

Kaludra’s quickly clasped her hands together at her waist and nodded furiously. “Got it.”

Lycannon snickered and gently poked Jacob’s side, knowing full well the girl wouldn’t be able to contain herself if her life depended on it.

“Alright, get ready. This is it.” He paused for dramatic effect. “Myself and your mother are getting married.”

She burst. “BY THE LIG-Ohh, I knew it, I knew it! I..Oh..”

Lycannon smirked and folded her arms over her bosom in natural fashion, watching Kaludra practically flail.

“Er..I’m sorry..I broke the promise..” The young woman ducked her head, pursing her lips.

“Don’t worry.” Jacob smiled and reached over to pull her into a hug. “Don’t know the exact time, that’s up to your mother.”

Lycannon shrugged, taking a step back to lean on the rail again and placing her hands on her waist with a sigh. “I suppose it depends on a few things. I don’t mind getting it done and then having a service later, or we could just go ahead and have it the traditional way..” She tilted her head. “Er, whatever that is for humans. I’ve never actually been to a wedding here before.”

“I haven’t been to many. I’m not really the life of the party, so no invites.” He shrugged his shoulders. “Either way, I’m happy to have it done how you know it. Same result in the end, really.”

“What about Lady Byron? You could get her to do it, or even Sir Nightwood! I bet he’d love to.” Kaludra squeaked, barely able to hold herself in.

“We’ll see, I’ll have to talk to them. As far as I know, nobody knows that we’re planning on wedding. Saibley might, but it’s Saibley.” Lycannon says, giving a knowing look to McSars.

“Saibley probably knows already because of echoes here or something. She knows all. Mind reading powers.” He grins. “Does it have to be Nightwood? I’m quite certain I’d fall asleep. The man is quite wordy.”

Lycannon narrows her eyes. “I might have to drown you if you fall asleep at your own wedding, McSars.” She said, then returning a grin. “I’ll ask Seelie. We’ve talked a few times and I’m sure she’d be fine with doing it. I doubt it would be hard to find someone in an outfit full of paladins. What I’m most stuck on is where.”

“Hm… Nagrand? Plenty of safe places. Open air. Not too cold, not too hot. There’s those floating chunks of land that’ll support it.”

She blinks and then grimaces. “I..I don’t think the Outlands would be a good place, love. My past is there, which is what I’m trying to forget.”

Kaludra looked at her mother curiously. “Forget?”

Lycannon shook her head, raising a hand. “Ah, what I mean is, we’re starting over here. I’d like this to be somewhere on Azeroth. I won’t forget everything that happened on Draenor, but that’s a chapter of my life that is closed. This one is new.”

“Sounds fine. Maybe… Hm. Somewhere like Ashenvale? Hinterlands? Maybe even a nice quiet spot in Westfall or Elwynn?” He liked the idea of those, to be honest. Home was where the heart was, still.

Lycannon nodded. “That sounds like a fine plan to me. Maybe we should scout out a nice place and make our decision then.”

Kaludra squeaked again and stamped a hoof. “I can’t wait to tell everyone, oh..Qardin! I need to tell Qardin!” And she took off as quick as her little hooves could carry her.

Lyc watched her go and shook her head, then setting her eyes on her warrior. “I’m guessing our other daughter doesn’t know?”

He smiled as he watched Kaludra go, shook his head. “No… I’ll give her a call and tell her to drop by.”

He met Lycannon’s gaze and put his arms about her, pulling her close for a lingering kiss. “Love you, sweet.”
